National Marionette Theater
Since its foundation in 1991, the National Marionette Theater in Prague's Old Town has reigned as one of the most popular marionette theaters for children and adults alike.
Right from the very beginning this marionette theater has been celebrating success, mainly due to its popular version of Don Giovanni, inspired by the famous opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. To date, this performance has been staged more than 4,500 times. Since 1991 the theater has held more than 20 premieres of marionette plays for children and adult spectators. Besides the above-mentioned successful performances of Don Giovanni, where large marionette puppets dressed in stylish period costumes will take you back to the 18th century, the National Marionette Theater also stages Mozart's Magic Flute with real actors and in the original language of the opera, that is German, as well as performances of The Magic Theater of the Baroque World – Orfeo ed Euridice. Upon request, the theater is able to put on special events for families, companies and individuals. Under the supervision of a visual artist you too can create your very own marionette, or even an entire marionette theater. You can even learn about the technology of puppet production as well as the operational technique of the puppets and experience for yourself what it is like to be a puppeteer. Tickets for the National Marionette Theater can be purchased in advance or directly at the theater's ticket box office on Žatecká Street.
