Josef Sudek Studio

The studio of the renowned Czech photographer Josef Sudek in Prague's Újezd hosts photography exhibitions of contemporary and late photographers.

The garden photography studio is connected with the life and work of the significant Czech photographer Josef Sudek who started to use it in 1927. The ground floor pavilion of the total area of 61 m2 was built at the end of the 19th century in Vinohrady and transported to Újezd in 1901. In 1990 the studio was proclaimed a cultural monument. Sudek's company that was based in the studio ended its operation in the first years of the 2nd World War. At this time the studio was not only Sudek's workplace, but also the subject of his photographs. He captured the studio both from inside and outside in various seasons of the year and often photographed the lush vegetation in its small garden and the studio's window. In 1985 the studio was severely damaged by fire; a replica was built in 2000. If you are interested in contemporary Czech photography and the work of Josef Sudek, set out for any of the exhibitions held at the Josef Sudek Studio that is open every day except Mondays from noon till 6 p.m.
