Franz Kafka Museum

A long-term exhibition at the Franz Kafka Museum presents the life and work of the Prague native and world renowned writer of the 20th century.

Franz Kafka was very critical of his own literary work and only a small part of his writing was actually published during his life. A major part of his work was published thanks to Kafka's friend and writer Max Brod, who did not respect Kafka's wish to burn his manuscripts after he died. At the museum at Hergetova Cihelna visitors can see, among other things, the majority of first editions of Kafka's books, his correspondence, diaries, manuscripts, photographs and drawings. The exhibition is accompanied by five audiovisual programs and a printed guide in Czech, although guides in many world languages are also available for borrowing. It is worth mentioning that the exhibition called “The City of K. Franz Kafka and Prague” was originally created in Barcelona in 1999. Between 2002 and 2003 it was exhibited at the Jewish Museum in New York and only in 2005 was it installed in Hergetova Cihelna in Prague's Lesser Town where it is on display until today. A part of the museum is a shop where you can buy Kafka's work, biographies about Franz Kafka and various souvenirs with motifs regarding Kafka, such as calendars, postcards, photographs and more.
