Lobkowicz Palace

If you are searching for a wonderful and intriguing place to spend an afternoon, do not miss the Lobkowicz Palace where you will find one of the best private collections in all of Europe.

Lobkowicz Palace was built by Czech Nobleman Jaroslav of Perstejn in the middle of the 16th century; this is where the dynasty of the Lobkowicz family would begin. The family dates back to the 14th century, making them one of the oldest noble families in Bohemia. The palace has a very interesting history, and has played an important part in Czech history as it was the setting where the Catholic priests hid from the Protestants during the 1618 Defenestration of Prague. The family lost their stately collections and homes during the Nazi regime and also during Communist rule. Only after the fall of Communism did the family get back what was once theirs. The impressive collection showcased in the Lobkowicz Palace in Prague includes two large scale paintings of London by Canaletto, earthenware, instruments, original music scores with authentic notes made by Beethoven and Mozart, decorative arts, and much more. The audio guide features the voice of William Lobkowicz, the current owner of the Lobkowicz Estate. It is his voice and the little personal stories he tells about his family throughout the tour that makes this place so memorable and magical. The palace consists of the first floor, where you can see how the family once lived, and the second floor, which houses the grand collection. Do not miss the Lobkowicz Palace tour in the Prague Castle complex; it is, in our opinion, one of the best, most educational attractions in Prague.
