Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul
Situated on Petrov Hill the dramatic Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul is the iconic symbol of the city of Brno.
This gorgeous national cultural monument is one of the most important structures in South Moravia; featuring 84 meter high imposing towers it is truly an unforgettable sight. Originally on the site of the current cathedral there was a Romanesque chapel, which was eventually rebuilt into a Gothic structure. Today the church features a gorgeous interior that is Baroque in design, while the highly impressive towers were constructed in 1904-5 according to the Gothic Revival plans of architect August Kirstein. It is of interest to note that the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul is pictured on the Czech ten Koruna coin.
