Labyrinth under the Vegetable Market

Located in the beautiful center of the Central European city of Brno is the whimsical Labyrinth under the Vegetable Market.

This underground system of dark and mysterious corridors and cellars is situated under one of the oldest squares in Brno; the original name of the square “Upper Market Square” was first mentioned in the early 13th century. Originally used for storing barrels of wine, brewing beer, as a food pantry for the bustling vegetable market above (that ran for over 700 years), and for shelter during wartime, the Labyrinth dates back to the Middle Ages with the majority of the cellars created after 1600. This atmospheric maze was interestingly not connected until 2009 when the city operated a major reconstruction of the Labyrinth; it was opened in 2011 and has proved to be extremely popular with tourists and locals alike. Guided tours are available for groups (max. 25 persons) and run regularly throughout the day.
