Wallenstein Garden

A peaceful oasis in the middle of the busy city, Wallenstein Garden undoubtedly is among the most beautifully maintained Baroque gardens in Prague.

Fans of architecture and sculpture will be delighted. Hidden in the heart of Lesser Town, Wallenstein Garden boasts a lot of greenery, sculpted hedges and Baroque statues representing heroes from Greek mythology. Admire a pond with various kinds of fish including colored carp and a small islet featuring a marble fountain of Hercules or peacocks walking freely among the hedges. Probably the most interesting thing in Wallenstein garden is an Italian grotto with artificial stalactites. Next to it there is an aviary with a horned owl. The garden belongs to the Wallenstein Palace which is today the seat of the Czech Senate. Both the palace and the garden were built between 1623-1630 in the early Baroque style, but also with many elements from the Italian Renaissance as the owner Count Wallenstein studied in Padua, Italy. Most of the original statues in Wallenstein Garden belong to the Wallenstein collection. What captivates every visitor is the Sala Terrena decorated with frescoes depicting the Trojan Wars. Concerts of classical music and theater performances often take place here. Wallenstein Garden is located directly next to the Malostranská metro station. Entry is free and the garden is open to the general public from April to October daily from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
