Castle District

Prague Castle is fascinating, but don't overlook the surrounding area, known as Hradčany, or the Castle District. Here you will find abundant greenery, peace and quiet, and magnificent views of Prague. The first mention of Hradčany dates back to 1320 when on the area surrounding the castle a town with the same name was established. Hradčany is famous mainly for its monumental palaces such as, for example, Schwarzenberg or Sternberg palaces but also for Strahov Monastery with its historical library. Also in the area Loreta Square is worth stopping by which was built during the construction of the Cernin Palace. On Loreta Square you will find the Cernin Palace and a Capuchin monastery with a large garden that is home to a replica of the Santa Casa, the legendary home of the Virgin Mary.
