Old Town Square

Old Town Square, which used to be called Market Place centuries ago, belongs among the most famous and oldest squares in Prague.

The square is dominated by the Old Town City Hall, a fascinating structure that was built in 1338, and is decidedly most famous for being home to Prague's Astronomical Clock. The astronomical clock, complete with a chronometer and a zodiac below was added to the Hall in 1410. Every day tourists from all over the world admire the awe-inspiring clock. You can participate in an awesome sight by watching individual windows of the chronometer open, which show the 12 apostles rotating inside the clock – this is an amazing sight simply due to the fact that the clock is so old and still functioning. The Old Town City Hall building was severely damaged at the end of WWII when its neo Gothic wing burned down. However, the remaining part was reconstructed and today it serves tourists and locals as one of the most famous places to get married in Prague. Ascend the tower of the city hall and experience great views of the whole square and the surrounding charming historic buildings and their red tile rooftops. You will also find beautiful churches on Old Town Square, such as the Gothic Church of Our Lady before Týn or the Baroque church St. Nicholas from the 18th century.
