New Town
Prague's New Town, which really isn't old at all as it dates back to 1348, plays host to a fascinating number of Prague sights. One could actually say that the real Prague exists in this area as the Old Town sometimes plays victim to the trade of tourism. This authentic and bustling area that was created by King Charles IV is more avant garde than Old Town and features architectural and cultural gems such as museums, galleries and theaters, old palaces, shopping arcades, art house cinemas, concert halls and much more. Situated between Old Town and Vysehrad, New Town offers an array of sights and attractions in Prague, most of which are situated off of or around Wenceslas Square, a.k.a. the setting for the Velvet Revolution. This bustling wide avenue boasts the pretty National Museum, the evocative St. Wenceslas equestrian statue, shops, cafes, bars and more. If you want a taste of real Prague, spend a day or two exploring New Town.
