Art Nouveau

Prague is famous for its vast array of architectural styles, with Art Nouveau being one of the more represented styles in this gorgeous European capital. Art Nouveau widely spread throughout the European continent and was evident not only in architectural structures but also in visual arts as well. The designers, artists and architects of the Art Nouveau movement believed that all visual elements should work together to create a total work of art, not only in buildings, but in furniture, textiles, clothing, jewelry, etc. The style is characterized most of all by lovely, rosy-cheeked maidens with intertwining flower and leaf motifs, and new production methods that would seemingly try to dissolve the line between fine and applied arts. Of course, the Czech Republic is represented by its most famous Art Nouveau son, Alfons Mucha. If you are visiting Prague, do not miss the world famous Municipal House.
