Třeboň

Located in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic is Třeboň, a picturesque historical town.

Dating back to the 12th century, Třeboň was well-known way back when even in the 15th century for its surrounding countryside and complex system of fishing ponds; the success of the fishing ponds was thanks to groundskeeper Petr IV of Rožmberk (1462 – 1523), who meticulously took care of them. It is of interest to note that the Habsburg and Schwarzenberg families owned the town, the castle and surrounding countryside from 1611. Today Třeboň offers an attractive setting for tourism with its various sights and leisure options; the town features a charming main square, old fortifications, and the vast system of fishing ponds that surround the town. Lovers of strange facts will appreciate this: between 1586 and 1589, astrologer, mathematician, astronomer and consultant to Queen Elizabeth I, John Dee and the famous spirit medium Edward Kelley held séances, studied the occult and conducted experiments in Třeboň.
